Very nice. Towards the pathway to wholeness, learning more about this ancient reality is quite compelling. Thanks for raising awareness. Curious how an individual who is internally hungry for deeper integration of the self can partner with the Holy Spirit to better steward this in their own life?
Great to hear from you. Yes, I think there are some sects of Christianity that utilize dreams as prophetic insights, but Jung did use them to help us integrate and learn more about our soul. I will be unveiling these ideas in the paid subscription area, as I think it is often a “lost” component of our Christianity - we tend to think of our soul as something that is static, rather than something that is being transformed, and when we lean into the insights of how and why the soul transforms we have a better grasp on our calling and lean deeper into the how behind our prophetic words.
I agree that dreams can be a reflection of the soul and/or the Spirit realm. I don’t always remember my dreams but when I do, they reflect either something from my psyche or the Holy Spirit. If I do remember them, I ponder the symbols and ask the Lord to reveal the meanings. I still recall in detail a prophetic dream from 1997 that came to pass. I have thought of keeping a journal of dreams but haven’t done that yet. I know God speaks through dreams at times but sometimes it remains a mystery as to the meaning. Recently I’ve been having dreams with a recurring theme that is more relevant to my soul than prophetic. I don’t know what to do with it except think of them as a mirror. And seek the Lord.
Yes, dreams about the soul do take a bit more work to understand. I’ll be giving some tips about this in the next workshop (4th Sunday of the month), in which I’ll explain the various processes we see Mary go through when she encounters spiritual symbols, and how she worked them over (and yes, there is ample Biblical evidence of this!).
So of course after reading this topic I woke up after a dream which I have had a number of times across the years. In the earlier occasions I just shrugged it off and kept moving. No so this time. I put the dream up to Holy Spirit in prayer asking help with 1) understanding and 2) covering under His blood.
RIA helped me understand too.
Thank you Angela for opening this dynamic. Bring on the meat, I'm done with milk.
I love it Ken. We will have our workshop coming up on the 4th Sunday of this month in which I will elaborate the Biblical process of understanding what occurs in the contemplative tradition/understanding of dreams.
“In the meantime, what are your thoughts about dreams and their possible meanings after reading this article”
Opening Prayer: My Lord, my God, my dad who I only desire to follow and hear from. Having been fully man yourself for a few short years, you are aware of the need for sleep. After all, sleep is a physical requirement. Yet something more dynamic is happening in our sleep. You have built us to be more able to “hear” your soft whispers in our sleep. But only if we have the ears with which to listen. Therefore, in this prayer I am asking that you tear down all the walls which I have so that all you want to show me in the middle of a sleep, that I am able to receive it. And once I have received it, to then ask Holy Spirit to help to understand it with a focus on becoming more like Jesus, less like Adam. In the glorious name of Jesus Christ, I pray. Amen.
I began by reviewing scripture passages about dreams. I was not surprised to find any number of passages attesting to the value of dreams in many ways. Then I came to Ecclesiastes 5:3 and 7. These passages toppled over my apple cart! How so?
The context of these two passages reminds me that above everything else, it is the fear of / reverence towards God which is more important than anything else. In other words, I do not have an inherent NEED to dissect dreams for the sake of vanity. I only have a NEED to fear / have reverence towards God.
Then my Holy Spirit said to me, “No Daaahhhh.”
I realized at that moment that I had again fallen into my intellectual trap. I say “praise Jesus” that Holy Spirit is now beginning to slowly turn my attention onto a deeper reality. In this venue which is Firehouse, Holy Spirit is asking me to leave behind for a time my desire to gain cranium knowledge and to instead let Him help me see revelations in order to be more like Jesus, less like Adam.
I spent the last 18 hours pondering on my need to show my reverence / fear of and to God as instructed by these 2 passages. Then the second revelation was given to me as the gift which it is. I heard Holy Spirit say “don’t you think that God will give you great dreams / gifts once you fully surrender to Him?” WOW!! Wake up call for sure. What truly scares me is how many other topics do I have backward? I do not need to study to gain knowledge, I need to bow down in front of God as these passages say, and His gift to me for doing so will be dreams which I can only now dream of!
I become more and more excited to continue this journey as each baby step brings me revelation! Praise Jesus.
Once, I woke up from a dream that had this weight attached that you describe, something I had never considered before, but it was clearly important.
Later that day, I had a meeting where I was teaching a man, an atheist, about the gospel. I asked him "What evidence do you have in your life that God might be real?" (Expecting him to say the usual like, the birth of his children, or feelings of love, or the order of the universe etc)
But instead, he gave me several specific dates of dreams, over decades, when he said Jesus came to him in several scenarios.
ONLY because I had felt the impact of my own dream that morning, was I able to reinforce and validate his experience, which was an important piece of his journey-- he chose to be baptized a few weeks later, after having resisted his wife's religion for 20 years!

Imagine if I had dismissed his dreams???
